W/Cup qualifier: Mandela Challege hero, Nwofor for Malawi game

W/Cup qualifier: Mandela Challege hero, Nwofor for Malawi game

VVV Venlo of Holland striker Uche Nwofor, is among the 18 foreign-based players listed by the Super Eagles for the September 7 World Cup qualifier against the Flames of Malawi, billed for the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
An informed source said that Nwofor, who emerged the hero of the Nelson Mandela Challenge
with a brace, stands a chance to pick a shirt in the squad given his devastating form.
Real Betis winger Nosa Igiebor is staging a comeback to the senior national team as he has
been listed by coach Stephen Keshi.
Also recalled is stand-in captain, goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, who is to battle for number one shirt with age-long rival, Austin Ejide.
Ejide kept a clean slate in Nigeria's 2-0 win over South Africa in the Mandela Challenge on September 14 and his form if maintained could push Enyeama to the bench this time in Calabar.
Twenty-four home-based players headed by Godfrey Oboabona have been listed while only five of them would join the legion of foreign-based players for the game; as well as the international friendly against Burkina Faso scheduled to hold in Kaduna on September 10.
It is however, likely that the Sunshine Stars defender could come to Calabar as a foreign-based player if his transfer to Rizespor of Turkey scales through in no time.
